Abu Dhabi Enforces Ban on New Groundwater Wells to Safeguard Vital Water Reserves

In alignment with Law No. (5) of 2016, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi issues new resolution restricting groundwater drilling in key areas to ensure long-term sustainability.

Abu Dhabi, UAE — In a significant move aimed at protecting the emirate’s diminishing groundwater reserves, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced a new resolution prohibiting the drilling of new groundwater wells in designated areas across Abu Dhabi. The decision, developed in coordination with relevant authorities, underscores the emirate’s commitment to water conservation and sustainable resource management.

This latest initiative is part of the ongoing implementation of Law No. (5) of 2016, which regulates groundwater management in the emirate.
