Shima Saber: Egypt’s Trailblazing Sports Presenter Redefining Media and Representation

Born and raised in Cairo, Shima Saber’s passion for sports—particularly football—was ignited at a young age. What began as an interest soon grew into a defining force in her life and career. Today, Shima is recognized not just as a seasoned TV presenter, but as a trailblazer who has continuously broken barriers in Egyptian sports media.

Her professional journey began while she was still a university student. In 2008, she made her television debut as a host for a music show on Dream TV, marking the beginning of a career in front of the camera. In 2010, she graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of District Columbia through a joint program with MA Cairo University—a milestone that coincided with her first major role as host of GEAR BOX on Egypt’s Channel 1, the national broadcaster.

In 2011, Shima moved to Rotana Masrya to host EZZ EL SHABAB, a vibrant show that further cemented her growing reputation. She soon found her true calling in sports journalism, presenting news bulletins and sports programs—including the morning show—on Melody Sports.

However, 2012 brought a significant shift. Following a tragic football stadium stampede, public sports events were halted across Egypt. During this hiatus, Shima transitioned into a new role as Account Manager at Promovision, a marketing firm. Yet, her passion for broadcasting remained undimmed. She continued to host television shows on leading networks such as LBC and Al Nahar Sports TV, earning recognition as the only female reporter actively covering sports in the region at the time.

Shima’s career witnessed a resurgence in 2016 when she joined DMC Sports, hosting the acclaimed series TIME-OUT. Two years later, she moved to the Al Ahly TV channel, where she led a popular daily sports program. Since 2019, Shima has been an integral figure at Ontime Sports TV, hosting multiple standout shows including 7X7 (2019), 50 MINUTES (2020), ON NEWS (2021), ON SPOT (2022), and as of November 2024, she continues to inspire audiences every morning as the host of ON TIME Sports.

Her latest project, “Unstoppable: The Italian Dream,” aired on Starzplay, marking yet another high-profile milestone in her ever-evolving career.

Beyond television, Shima Saber is also a distinguished host of major sporting events and championships, bringing professionalism, poise, and energy to live audiences across the region.
