Sheikh Hamdan Unveils New Program to Fund Breakthrough Projects, Support Researchers, and Advance UAE’s Global Leadership in Science and Innovation
Dubai has taken a significant step toward solidifying its position as a global leader in research, development, and innovation (RDI) with the announcement of a new initiative aimed at funding and supporting groundbreaking projects. On Sunday, September 15, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE, unveiled the initiative, which will provide vital resources and grants to researchers, scientists, and innovators.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the importance of R&D in shaping the future of cities, nations, and economies. “Our vision is for Dubai to become one of the world’s top cities in supporting researchers and scientists by offering the necessary funding, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks to drive progress in the research field,” he wrote.
The Dubai RDI Program is designed to be a catalyst for innovation, focusing on fostering ambitious ideas and research that could address some of the most pressing challenges locally and globally. By providing the financial backing and infrastructure needed to advance research, Dubai aims to elevate the UAE’s role in the global innovation landscape.
Sheikh Hamdan expressed his excitement about the initiative’s potential to attract collaboration from prominent academics, researchers, and institutions worldwide. “We anticipate outstanding contributions from academics, researchers, national and international universities, and research institutions from the UAE and across the globe,” he stated.
This forward-thinking program aims to elevate Dubai’s domestic investment in R&D and expand the role of the private sector in funding and launching new projects. The initiative also sets out to address major global challenges through knowledge-driven solutions and to identify key areas for future economic growth, enhancing the city’s long-term resilience.
The Dubai RDI Program outlines a strategic roadmap for research and development that aligns with the emirate’s long-term vision of building a knowledge-driven economy. It regulates initiatives, projects, and legislation related to RDI, while also managing funding and investment in the sector. The program’s mission includes increasing productivity in existing sectors, opening pathways for new economic opportunities, and enhancing Dubai’s readiness to integrate emerging industries into its growth strategy.
This new initiative underlines Dubai’s commitment to fostering innovation as a core driver of economic and societal progress, positioning the city as a hub for global scientific and technological advancement.
