Ambitious development set to house 150,000 residents and feature 11km of stunning coastline
A major new chapter in Umm Al Quwain’s development journey has begun with the official launch of the “Downtown Umm Al Quwain” project — a visionary 25 million square foot masterplan set to reshape the emirate’s urban and economic future.
The landmark project, unveiled during a ceremony led by Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain and Chairman of the Executive Council, will feature a continuous 11-kilometre stretch of coastline, including 7 kilometres of pristine natural beaches and parks. Designed as a vibrant mixed-use destination, the development is strategically divided into three key zones: North Beach, Trade Centre, and South Beach.
Each zone will offer a rich mix of residential communities, commercial hubs, office spaces, hotels, and recreational attractions, creating a dynamic environment for living, working, and leisure.
One of the standout features of the development is the Trade Centre — a massive 15 million square foot free zone operating under an independent legal framework. Positioned to become a global destination for business, cultural exchange, and investment, the Trade Centre promises to inject significant new energy into the emirate’s economy.
Highlighting the significance of the project at the launch event, Sheikh Rashid emphasized the role of large-scale investment initiatives in bolstering Umm Al Quwain’s economic resilience and attracting commercial opportunities from around the world.
Developed in partnership with Sobha Realty, the first phase of Downtown Umm Al Quwain will feature a range of homes, offices, and hospitality offerings. Once fully completed, the project is expected to house over 150,000 residents, dramatically enhancing the emirate’s appeal as a destination of choice for both locals and expatriates.
Environmental sustainability lies at the heart of the project’s design, with approximately half of the land area dedicated to green spaces, walkways, and parks. Infrastructure planning has also been focused on creating a sustainable and eco-friendly urban environment.
The Government of Umm Al Quwain described the Downtown project as a bold step toward positioning the emirate as a competitive, attractive destination for investors, residents, and tourists alike — further strengthening the UAE’s broader vision of balanced and sustainable development across all its emirates.
